This blog is for my newest addition, a boy for the first time since my first try at owning a gelding. His name is Wyatt, a brown paint gelding whom I hope to register as Diamond in the Rough.
So maybe I should really explain everything in better detail then just posting his mugshot. About two months ago I sold my black and white filly, Azula. I will admit she was starting to become too much temperament for me and was enjoying working with my more level headed Chloe and Magik (Previously named Impa). So I made the decision to sell my two year old paint to someone who would enjoy her much more than I could. I made the right choice, one I would never have made years ago in my younger years.
As I was saying, I'd sold Azula and was spending more time with my oldest mare, Rosie. Chloe wasn't yet ready to start riding on the trails because of her still small stature, and Magik is only a yearling and won't be ready for another year or two. I'd wanted to breed Rosie, but I slowly realized I may not get something I would enjoy training in the long run. I'd started to look online at project horses for sale, something I could start training to ride now, then flip it and sell it for more in the end.
One day I went to the barn for a ride when I saw two new horses, which isn't unusual. I'd thought they were boarders, but found out they were for sale. I went and saw the biggest first because he had the most unusual markings i'd seen on a paint before.
I found I'd liked his 'energy', it was calm and enjoyable to be around. I go and talk to the owner and find out they're both not broke and they said to go see the other one. I went into the other one's pen and found I didn't really care for the high strung energy I was getting off him and didn't even spend much time with him.
Long story short, I was given a choice and I picked Wyatt.
So far, I've done groundwork with him and I've started to ride him now. He's 3-4 years old and approx. 16 hands and still growing.
When one door closes, another door opens...
Azula is gone, but in a better home now. Wyatt is the new door opening for me. I know I still have Chloe and Magik to train, but neither are ready and Wyatt is ready now.
